Corporate - Sr. Claims Assistant - Property & Casualty

The Sr. Claims Assistant will provide support to the Claims Manager and Claims Staff. The position will also handle assignments that will ensure the Company’s compliance with Federal, State and OSHA regulations in-regards to work comp and accident claims.



  • Assist the Claims Manager with day to day tasks of assisting Commercial Vehicle Operators with their claim’s paperwork, obtaining police reports, photos and any documents relating to the claim.
  • Obtaining documentation from other clients relating to claim files: i.e.: customers, third party claimants, repair facilities, attorneys, and any other related entities. Researching and obtaining documentation to support the claims department.
  • Issuing claims checks requested by the Claims Manager, following up on the issuance of said checks, mailing the checks to appropriate parties, posting the information into A1 Tracker, scanning documents into A1 and updating the claim files as needed.
  • Assist Claims Manager with all incoming mail, research, attach to claim file and give to Claims Manager for review.
  • Take incoming phone messages for Claims Manager and Claims team as needed or transfer to appropriate file handled or department within the company.
  • Provide weekly updated report on activity to the Claims Manager and maintain excel spreadsheets for Open Claims, work comp claims, truck, trailer, third party claims, litigated files and subrogation files. This position will produce reports monthly or upon request.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed and perform additional related duties and assignments as directed by Management.


Required Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years as an Administrative Assistant, 1-2 years experience in the insurance claims industry.
  • High School Diploma is required, some college studies preferred.
  • The ability to multi-task in various areas throughout the day and adaptable to changes in schedule daily.
  • General office and computer experience are necessary especially Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets. Proficient in typing accurately 60-70 words per minute.
  • Attention to detail with legal documents and some claims language knowledge.
  • Telephone etiquette is required with effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Above average written skills are required for business correspondence using proper grammar/punctuation


Environment and Physical Requirements:

Most of the time will be in the office Duties to include administrative functions using the phone, computer and communicating with people. There will be minimum exposure to fumes, dust, and noise. This job will require occasional lifting of no more than 30-50 pounds. While performing these duties minimum bending of the waist, wrist, and shoulders is customary. Must be able to sit a minimum of 8 hours per day, perform keyboard operations a minimum of 6 hours per day, and must be able to stand and climb stairs as required.
