What you’ll be doing

Brown Trucking Company is seeking a results-driven Operations Manager to lead and optimize daily transportation and logistics operations. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient load planning, driver management, regulatory compliance, and superior customer service. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, analytical, and operational expertise to improve fleet performance, maximize asset utilization, and support the company’s continued growth.

What the role involves

Operations Leadership
 
Direct daily logistics and transportation operations to ensure on-time, high-quality service and maximum equipment utilization.
 
Coordinate dispatch, routing, and scheduling activities to maintain operational efficiency and service reliability.
 
Identify process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce operational costs.

Driver & Asset Management
 
Manage driver dispatching, scheduling, and performance to ensure optimal fleet productivity.
 
Ensure adherence to safety regulations, including ELD compliance, DOT requirements, and Hours of Service regulations.
 
Foster a positive driver culture with a strong focus on driver engagement and retention.

Load Planning & Routing
 
Optimize route planning and load management to reduce empty miles and improve operational efficiency.
 
Monitor freight movement and proactively address service disruptions or delays.
 
Collaborate with sales and brokerage teams to maximize freight opportunities.

Relationship Management
 
Serve as the primary point of contact for key customers and carriers.
 
Maintain high service standards by proactively resolving operational issues such as delays, accidents, or claims.
 
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, drivers, and carrier partners.

Data Analysis & Reporting
 
Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including on-time delivery, cost-per-mile, fleet utilization, and driver productivity.
 
Provide operational reports and insights to leadership to support data-driven decision-making.
 
Implement continuous improvement initiatives based on operational metrics.
 
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, drivers, and carrier partners.

Compliance & Safety
 
Enforce company safety policies and ensure compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.
 
Promote a culture of safety and accountability across the operations team and driver workforce.
 
Support incident investigations and corrective actions when necessary.
 
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, drivers, and carrier partners.

What we’re looking for

Required
 
Transportation Operations: 2 years
 
Full Truckload (FTL) Operations: 2 years
 
Freight Brokerage or 3PL: 2 years
 
Location: On-site/in person
Preferred
 
Prior experience in full truckload (FTL) operations management, freight brokerage, or third-party logistics (3PL).
 
Proven experience managing dispatch operations and fleet performance.
 
Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) such as McLeod or TMW/Trimble.
 
Experience using load boards such as DAT and Truckstop/Highway.
 
Strong understanding of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and DOT compliance requirements.
 
Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and motivate teams in a fast-paced logistics environment.
 
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
 
Exceptional negotiation, verbal, and written communication skills.
 
Ability to collaborate effectively with drivers, customers, and internal teams.
